Welcome to Con's weather station, located in Bulleen, VIC Australia.
This weather station is a Wireless Vantage Pro from Davis Instruments.
The weather station records temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, rainfall, wind speed and wind direction. The Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS) includes a self empyting rain collector, temperature and humidity sensors, anemometer and solar panel. For the utmost in accuracy, the temperature and humidity sensors are enclosed in a fan-aspirated radiation shield which provides active and passive aspiration to minimize the effects of solar radiation and other sources of radiated and reflected heat.
The ISS is connected to the Sensor Interface Module (SIM). The SIM is housed in a weather resistant shelter and collects outside weather data from the ISS. The data is transmitted wirelessly to a Davis Vantage Pro console and Weather Envoy. The Weather Envoy is attached via serial port to a Linux server which processes the data and stores it in a database.
The ISS is solar powered and includes a "super capacitor" to store electricity that powers the ISS at night. A 3-volt Lithium battery provides backup. The transmitter sends data as often as every 2.5 seconds and has a wireless range of up to 120m (line of sight). Typical range through walls under most conditions is 23 to 46m.
Davis weather stations are manufactured in California, USA.
